Anton Emmanuel

Anton Emmanuel obtained his medical degree from London University. He is A Professor of Neuro-Gastroenterology at University College London and Consultant Gastroenterologist at University College Hospital at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square). 

Anton has recently been appointed as the interim Head of Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES), NHS England and NHS Improvement. He is currently leading the next phase of the WRES (cultural transformation) and is working alongside national and regional teams in implementing the WRES. He is ambitious in closing the gaps between BME and white staff in terms of recruitment, of promotion, of disciplinary action and race inequalities; ultimately improving the experience of staff in the NHS to be equitable which can then translate to improved patient outcomes.
On a personal basis: father of four, immigrant of African-Asian origin, Londoner, multiple amateur (guitarist, homebrewer, record collector).
